Living Smart Festival returns with Costa in 2021
One of Australia’s largest and longest-running sustainability festivals is set to make a rousing return in September after COVID-19 forced a hiatus in 2020.
The 17-19 September Living Smart Festival at Speers Point Park will feature events and activities for all ages, themed around creating a more sustainable, liveable world for generations to come.
Saturday’s free event will see the return of Living Smart Festival favourites, including a native plant giveaway, school garden bed competition, workshops, market stalls, children’s entertainment and bike valet.
Georgiadis will help judge the garden bed comp, where schools from across Lake Macquarie create and display imaginative and innovative miniature gardens full of fresh produce and flowers.
The Friday evening Feast for the Senses will include a gourmet dinner under the stars, featuring live entertainment and seasonal and sustainably sourced ingredients.
Live at the Point on Sunday 19 September will be a ticketed music event, featuring local live music across multiple stages.
Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said the day of music would capitalise on the performance space of Speers Point Park’s soon-to-be-opened Multi Arts Pavilion (MAP).
“We’re in the process of booking a line-up of musicians who share Living Smart Festival’s sustainability goals and messages,” she said.
“It’s going to be a wonderful live event in the spring sunshine – on the shore of Lake Macquarie and using the new MAP stage.”
This year’s festival is proudly sponsored by Greater Bank, Hunter Water, Allambi Care and Hunter Resource Recovery.
Lake Macquarie Mayor Cr Kay Fraser said the weekend was one of the highlights of the local events calendar.
“Past years of Living Smart Festival have shown how passionate our community is about living sustainably and thinking about how we can help make a difference,” Cr Fraser said.
“I’m looking forward to another amazing weekend that brings our community together to learn, celebrate and enjoy this landmark event.”
This year’s Living Smart Festival will have COVID-safe measures in place in line with NSW Health recommendations.
“We’ll be announcing more details and Sunday’s music line-up closer to the date, so stay tuned,” Ms Hemsley said.
Applications are now open for stallholders interested in attending Living Smart Festival. All stallholders must sign an agreement to adhere to the event’s sustainability values and guidelines.
