Spooky and spring-themed activities are on the line-up for Lake Macquarie kids these school holidays.

From entering a theatrical world of beachy fun to making slippery slime and horrifying Halloween craft – these are just some of 14 activities on offer from Monday 26 September to Friday 7 October.

Lake Macquarie City Council Lifelong Learning and Engagement Coordinator Kirrily Anderson said a number of events were centred around the start of spring and Halloween.

“The play called At the Beach, which is full of quirky humour and coastal fun, will be presented at Rathmines Theatre on Friday 7 October,” Ms Anderson said.

“This performance celebrates our iconic beach culture and family camping holidays, through dance, text, gesture and thigh-slapping wit, and will entertain children and adults alike.”

Meanwhile, get your kids ready for Halloween with a semi-spooky storytime, songs and craft at Morisset Library on Tuesday 4 October

Arts, Culture and Tourism Manager Jacqui Hemsley said the diverse range of activities would allow kids to learn, grow and connect.

“We want kids to enjoy themselves and learn new things outside the classroom,” Ms Hemsley said.

“We’re encouraging kids to enjoy the great outdoors at a kite-making workshop on Wednesday 5 October and a raft-making workshop on Friday 7 October.”

Kids can immerse themselves in Aboriginal culture at an interactive storytime presented by local school students on Thursday 29 and Friday 30 September.

Another storytime, to be held on Tuesday 4 October, invites kids to dress as their favourite superhero.

Cape or no cape, the event will teach kids about real life superheroes in our community, such as scientists, emergency services workers and nurses just to name a few.

Furthermore, kids can let their creative minds run wild during an artmaking workshop on Friday 7 October, where children will be shown how to form a self-portrait out of wire.
