Take part in a City wide clean up

Lake Macquarie Sustainable Neighbourhoods Alliance will be hosting a City-Wide Clean-Up on Sunday 9 August as part of Lake Macquarie City Council’s Eco Angel Program.

Inspired by the ongoing impacts of the global pandemic and the community’s increased appreciation of natural areas and green spaces, the event encourages Lake Mac residents to reduce consumption and waste.

The event will be held across five sites in Lake Mac: Charlestown-Whitebridge, Pelican, Rathmines, Speers Point-Boolaroo and Toronto, with registrations capped at 20 people for each.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Cr Kay Fraser encouraged residents to participate and lend a hand to reduce litter and plastics.

“The Eco Angel program is a great way to inspire residents of all ages to help provide clean and healthy public places throughout the City,” Cr Fraser said.

“I will be attending the Charlestown-Whitebridge clean-up and look forward to a fun morning outdoors with the community."

Each site will follow COVID-safe practices, with numbers limited to 20 people per site. Physical distancing and hygiene requirements will be adhered to and participants are encouraged to stay home if they are feeling unwell.

Lake Macquarie City Council’s Eco Angel program encourages people to get involved in keeping the City clean all year round. Since the program’s launch in 2013, local community groups and residents have removed more than 25 tonnes of waste from across the City, and more than 3341 volunteers have helped clean up at 89 events.
