Lifestyle magazine partners with Hunter Institute of Mental Health supporting “Youth Rockin’ the Bl

Intouch magazine is very excited to announce their sponsorship of the Hunter Institute of Mental Health as the Official Media Partner for the 2015 Youth Rockin’ the Black Dog (YRBD).

YRBD is an annual music competition designed to raise awareness of mental health issues amongst young people in the Hunter and surrounding areas. This years competition will be held at Lizotte’s Newcastle with live heats held throughout September culminating with the Grand Final on Wednesday, October 7.

The competition involves local musical acts between 12 to 25 years of age competing in front of a panel of music industry representatives, vying for a place in the Grand Final event. Grand Finalists compete for a range of prizes, including a fully produced and mastered 3-track EP recording and promotional package.

As well as being a platform for emerging music artists, the competition encourages young people to get thinking and talking about mental health issues with friends, family and networks and aims to promote a range of local and national services available to support young people.

"The Hunter Institute is pleased to work with intouch magazine to bring wider awareness of the YRBD competition and to the importance of positive mental health for young people in the Hunter Region." - Director of Hunter Institute of Mental Health, Jaelea Skehan.

It is hoped that collaboration between Hunter Institute of Mental Health, intouch magazine, headspace Maitland and headspace Newcastle will raise awareness and engage young people in conversations about mental health and as a result, improve mental health outcomes for Australians, by reducing the incidence or impact of risk factors and help children and adolescent’s access support early.
