Movie raises vital funds for local women with breast cancer

The Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation (HBCF) is hosting a Mother's Day Movie Night on May 7 to help provide vital support services to local families experiencing breast cancer.

The event will see the Vmax Cinema at Westfield Kotara transformed into an 'a unique pink night in'. Complete with a 'pink carpet', local market stalls, live music, pink cinema, candy bar and pink drink station, the event will be a first for the Hunter region.

The night will raise vital funds to provide essential support services to local women across Newcastle and the Hunter.

HBCF General Manager Ellie Wells says the foundation is busier than ever with cancer referrals and requests doubling in the past 12months.

"From wigs and headwear to transport services HBCF is completely funded by the local community, every service provided to local women is because of a donation."

The pandemic has seen a drastic rise in the need for support services.

"Since the beginning of the COVID, HBCF have seen the need for breast cancer support services explode, we are now supporting over 1000 local women through their treatment".

"Cancer doesn't stop for a worldwide pandemic and neither have we."

With the breast cancer support services projected to cost over $500,0000 in 2022, HBCF are asking the local community to get behind the Foundation and start fundraising.

"HBCF truly is the Hunter's breast cancer foundation, every dollar counts and our clients desperately need these programs supported for the year ahead."

Margaret Parkes knows how important these services are to families battling breast cancer.

"HBCF have helped me in so many ways," she said.

"It was such a relief not having to worry, knowing they had my back."

"From the day I was diagnosed HBCF put a whole series of services in place and gave my husband and I the reassurance that I was going to get through this."

The Mother's Day Movie Night will premiere June Again at Event Cinemas Kotara. Tickets are available for $34 and include popcorn, drinks and a goodie bag. For more information or to purchase tickets please visit www.hbcf.org.au.
