Big upgrade for Little Beach boat ramp

The Little Beach boat ramp will receive a $2 million upgrade thanks to a successful grant application to the NSW Boating Now program by Port Stephens Council.

The upgrades to existing facilities at the Little Beach boat ramp will see construction of a new raised boat ramp along with accessible toilet amenities, improved pathways and car park to provide better access for all.

Funding has also been awarded to develop an Aquatic Structures Strategy to plan for safe and sustainable access of Port Stephens’ waterways and grow tourism, commercial fishing and aquaculture.

Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer says the news is a big win for the community, who have been calling out for the upgrades for some time.

“This news can’t come soon enough for our community. I know how important these facilities are to our community and visitors alike.

“Safe and accessible maritime infrastructure is essential for our recreational boaters, anglers and local community to enjoy the incredible waterways of Port Stephens.

“These upgrades will overhaul the existing ramp — making it longer and higher for easier launching — and also create accessible toilet facilities, pathways and car parking to give greater access to all.

“Little Beach has one of the most popular boat ramps in NSW and this announcement will ensure it continues to be one of the best,” he said.

Port Stephens Council will now get to work on detailed design of this complex and environmentally sensitive project. Works will be scheduled in line with the funding agreement and will be timed to avoid peak boating season to limit disruption.

The NSW Boating Now program provides grant funding to improve maritime infrastructure and facilities across NSW. This investment supports the needs of recreational and commercial boaters and enables broader economic and social benefits for communities.
