Sporting groups to return to training in Lake Mac City

Lake Macquarie City Council is working with community sporting groups across the City to help them return to training from today, Friday 29 May, in line with the latest advice from the NSW Government.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Cr Kay Fraser said our community is passionate about their sport, with high participation levels across our City.

“Winter is normally the peak time for team sports and it will be pleasing to again see players take to our netball courts, sports grounds and open spaces to safely train,” Cr Fraser said.

Council’s Manager Community Partnerships Andrew Bryant said while competition and ‘friendly’ matches aren’t permitted at this stage, allowing sporting groups to return to training at Council sporting fields and courts is the start of a transition back to normality for the sporting community.

“Sport plays a big role in the lifestyle of many people within our community, and many kids have been itching to get out there and train with their team” Mr Bryant said.

“Sport Australia and State Sporting Organisations have provided guidelines around how and when sporting groups should return to training, and we are helping our sports clubs and committees to ensure Lake Mac facilities are COVID safe and ready to go.”

“Like all other areas of the community, restrictions will apply to the use of sports grounds and sports facilities, and clubs and players will need to strictly adhere to the NSW Public Health Order in their return to training.”

Operating committees and sporting clubs that manage facilities are encouraged to visit the Lake Mac Facility Manager ‘Return to Training’ checklist for further details about returning to training at their facility.
