Helping Locals Find Jobs Building New Maitland Hospital

The Maitland Connectivity Centre, run by Multiplex Constructions in partnership with the NSW Government, was officially opened today.
Member of the Legislative Council, Taylor Martin said the Connectivity Centre assists locals to find employment and job opportunities on the NSW Government’s $470 million new Maitland Hospital development.
“The Connectivity Centre assists with recruitment, negotiating funding for training and developing prevocational training programs during the construction of the new hospital,” Mr Martin said.
“The Berejiklian Government is committed to creating a legacy within the local community through traineeships, apprenticeships, work experience placements and Indigenous recruitment programs.
Mr Martin said almost 5000 new jobs are expected to be created as a direct result of work beginning on the project.
“To provide these opportunities, the Connectivity Centre collaborates with employment services providers, specialist labour hire, group training organisations, subject matter experts, mentoring and support services, Federal, State and Local Government bodies, community-based organisations and local employment, community and business networking,” Mr Martin said.
“These connections will facilitate the best possible employment outcomes for employees, employers and the local community through job readiness training for project roles, tailored training and work experience programs, ongoing support and mentoring and post placement support.”
The Connectivity Centre is a free support service and will engage with the local indigenous community for employment, traineeship and apprenticeship opportunities.
Mr Martin said that the key milestones continue to be met for at the new hospital project.
“In coming weeks, the team will pour the concrete for the ground floor of the new building, one of the major pours for the project,” Mr Martin said.
The new Maitland Hospital is on track to open in early 2022. It will deliver a range of services and increased capability in the form of beds and treatment spaces to better meet the changing healthcare needs of the community.
The project team, consisting of Multiplex Constructions, CBRE Project Managers and Health Infrastructure, are working closely with the Hunter New England Local Health District to ensure the new hospital is equipped to meet the current and future health challenges of the region.
