Annual Australia Day Newcastle Harbour Swim


Australia's richest open water swim will return to Newcastle Harbour on Australia Day with a record number of swimmers expected to take part.

City of Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes, Port Waratah Coal Services and Stockton Surf Life Saving Club will launch the 24th Newcastle Harbour Swim at a media conference at 10am on Friday, December 6, at Queens Wharf.

The 2020 event, which carries prize money of over $3,500, is being delivered in partnership with the City of Newcastle and Port Waratah Coal Services as the major sponsors.

Stockton Surf Life Saving Club President Callan Nickerson said it was crucial to have the support of both City of Newcastle and Port Waratah for the upcoming swim.

"It means we can deliver a high quality event and importantly raise vital funds for our surf patrols and lifesaving operations at Stockton Beach," Mr Nickerson said.

“The great prize money on offer makes the Newcastle Harbour Swim the richest open water swim in Australia.”

The 2020 edition, will feature the single crossing of the harbour which is 700 metres kicking off at 10am and the double crossing of 1400 metres starting at 11am. The double crossing boasts a cash prize of $3,500 split across male and female podium finishers.

Swimmers can registerat www.oceanswims.com or on the day (January 26) until half an hour before your event. Prize money is even on offer for the fastest male and female swimmers – so get training!
