The Bikers for Kids Newcastle Toy Run is an extraordinary festive season favourite that has been running for over 40 years and is proudly supported by City of Newcastle. From 10am to 1:30pm Sunday, 1st December, Wickham Park will come alive for kids and families for Christmas – bikes, music, amusements, children's activities, food trucks, markets, competitions, prizes, motorcycle displays and so much more. Inspired by the incredible costumes last year and our community’s commitment to help one another, 2019 will be themed as the ‘Costume for Kids’.
2NURFM are on-board once again as the official Media Partner, with drive host Kev Kellaway stepping up to MC the big day after participating in the ride “I’ve ridden in the Toy Run for several years now, and there’s a wonderful feeling of goodwill and charity throughout the ride. It’s a pleasure to assist the Bikers for Kids and Salvation Army, who help so many families throughout the Hunter, especially at Christmas time,” said Mr Kellaway.
One of the day’s highlights is undoubtedly the fantastic spectacle for all to enjoy with the arrival of up to 10,000 bikes, riders and pillions decorated in Christmas and Superhero costumes at Wickham Park from approximately 10.20am. There will also be a raffle of a Sol Invictus Apollo Cafe Racer motorcycle worth over $6999, with tickets selling at $5 each (what a Christmas gift!), live entertainment thanks to Big Apachee, face-painting, a splash dunk tank, photos with Santa, fairy floss, and more fun for kids. There will also be prizes for riders and best-dressed spectators – so get out your best fancy dress and put your best foot forward!
The real heart of the event is the massive donation point for new and unwrapped toys for the Salvation Army Christmas appeal. Last year, The Toy Run benefited over 4,000 local families. The Salvation Army mascot 'Shieldy' will be roving the park and greeting guests. Givers are also urged to remember older children aged up to 18, with suggested gift ideas listed on the website.
