Deni Hines returns to the Civic Theatre in Rock of Ages.

April 16, 2019

Epic production ‘ROCK OF AGES’ is set to take over the Civic Theatre this July with a stellar cast of local and national talent.

Set in 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small-town girl meets a big-city dreamer - and in L.A.'s most legendary rock club, they fall in love to the greatest songs of the '80's. It's an awesomely good time where big hair meets big dreams, in an hilarious, feel-good, Rock 'n' Roll love story, told through the hit songs such as I Want to Know What Love Is, Don't Stop Believin', The Final Countdown, We Built This City and More Than Words by iconic rockers such as Foreigner, Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Poison, Starship, Pat Benatar, Whitesnake and many more. ROCK OF AGES was also nominated for Five 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Australia pop/rock icon Deni Hines (playing the role of Justice) will headline an outstanding local cast of 19 Newcastle based actors and singers including Bec Kynaston (We Will Rock You, RENT) and Marty Worrall (The Voice, RENT). ROCK OF AGES will be directed by Newcastle based Director/Producer Daniel Stoddart (Ultra Swing Lounge, Phantom of the Opera), with Musical Director Dan Wilson (RENT, Starstruck) and Choreography by James Tolhurst (Phantom of the Opera, Mary Poppins, RENT) and Rachel Wilson.

Deni (daughter of legendary mother, Marcia Hines) began her own career singing backup vocals for acts like Wa Wa Nee, Peter Blakely and Kylie Minogue . She gained mainstream public attention while fronting the Sydney based act The Rockmellons , she notched up several Australian hits in 1990, including That Word (L.O.V.E.). Hines has also spent time performing on stage with Jesus Christ Superstar with her initial single, It's Alright becoming a Top 10 smash in Australia in 1996. She has performed in Dusty The Musical across Australia and is the first Australian artist to write a song for Beyonce Knowles with Bienvenue.
