With Australia Day on a Saturday this year, we have the whole weekend to celebrate and enjoy outdoor activities!
Family fun is on the cards in Lake Macquarie with the annual Lake Mac Festival, starting at midday. You can expect live music, displays, kids activities, face painting, a movie on the big screen and a fireworks finale at 9pm to finish off the night! This Australia Day, Maitland will celebrate all of the greatest Aussie Icons with The Mutual’s 2019 Australia Day in Maitland Park. Celebrations will begin at 7.30am with a free BBQ breakfast hosted by The Lions Club of East Maitland. Throughout the day there will be a range of fun and interactive activities running from 9am–3pm, free entry to Maitland Pool from 10am–3pm, loads of food stalls plus an Official Ceremony which will include a Citizenship Ceremony and Citizen of the Year Awards.

Singleton's Australia Day Celebrations will take place on the Civic Centre Lawn in Singleton. Entertainment, kids activities, multi-cultural food, craft stalls, and displays from the military and emergency services are some of the highlights of this event for the whole family. Australia Day Eve (Friday 25) celebrations will run in the same location from 6pm–10pm.

As with every year, a huge range of activities have been planned in Cessnock including welcoming Australia’s newest citizens, recognition of community members for outstanding work, sharing a bite to eat and the annual Mayoral Cup Cricket! The day kicks off with a Citizenship Ceremony and the Australia Day Awards at the East Cessnock Bowling Club from 10am to 12pm, with these official proceedings followed by a free barbecue lunch from 12pm to 2pm at East End Oval, Victoria Street. The Mayor’s Cricket Match begins at 12.30pm, concluding with the presentation of the
trophy at about 3.30pm. As usual, the weather is likely to be warm so be sure you take a hat, sunscreen and a chair to sit on for the oval activities.
