Sugar is a cheap ingredient and is used to enhance the flavour of food products. Food manufacturers understand human nature and by adding sugar to a product  know that it will appeal to our taste buds and encourage us to buy the product again leading to bigger profits!

Sugar is big business and food manufacturers, aware of growing consumer interest in sugar-free products, will often hide added sugars by calling it different names.

Look out for these ingredients which are simply sugar in disguise - cane juice, dehydrated cane juice, cane juice solids, cane juice crystals, dextrin, maltodextrin, dextrose, barley malt, beet sugar, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, caramel, buttered syrup, carob syrup, brown sugar, date sugar, malt syrup, diatase, diatastic malt, fruit juice, fruit juice concentrate, dehydrated fruit juice, fruit juice crystals, golden syrup, glucose, glucose syrup, ethyl maltol, maple syrup and yellow sugar.
