A New Wave of Winemakers

Owned by brothers Rhys and Garth Eather, Meerea Park is a relatively small winery that’s made quite a splash over the past decade to establish itself as one of the Hunter Valley’s leading boutique wine producers.

Meerea Park's wine show success at both national and international level, together with their reputation for producing consistently high-quality wines, reasonable prices and relatively limited supply have made wine critics and consumers sit up and take notice.

With the cellar door located at the Roche Estate facility in Pokolbin, Meerea Park specialise in individual vineyard wines sourced primarily from the Hunter region and produced at their winery in Palmers Lane - also in Pokolbin, which they purchased in 2007.

With a focus on Shiraz, Semillon and Chardonnay, Meerea Park wines are handcrafted from grapes grown on individually selected single plot vineyards, which have a have a track record for producing the best possible fruit. The result being that the wines have a reputation for being ''faithful to the earth'' - reflecting the natural relationship between the vineyard soil, vintage conditions, climate and the skills of the winemaker - the ''terroir."

Rhys Eather is the winemaker and a Roseworthy graduate in Wine Science and has also gained international wine-making experience in France, where he completed a vintage at the world famous M. Chapoutier in the Rhône Valley - giving Rhys the experience and insight required to craft top quality Rhône styled wines. Rhys also completed two vintages in Italy (Puglia and Piedmonte) rounding out his international wine-making experience.

Wine-making is not new to the Eather family who can trace their wine-making roots in the Hunter Valley back to the 1850's when Alexander Munro, their great-great-grandfather established the 'Bebeah' vineyard at Singleton and was at one stage the largest and most successful winemaker in New South Wales.

Much like their ancestor, for the Eather brothers the focus is on having a well managed, concentrated wine operation producing top quality individual vineyard hand-crafted wine and a commitment to continuous improvement.
