The 2015 Showcase Jewellers Gala Awards Dinner was a glittering, black-tie affair appropriately held in the Crystal Ballroom within the magical grounds of Luna Park, Sydney. Guests were greeted by a spectacle of gold and crystals and after a gourmet dinner, they danced the night away to the outstanding music of a cover band quartet.
The night wasn’t just about jewellers kicking up their heels though. The Showcase Jewellers Design Awards are a biannual event created to encourage the craftsmanship and creativity of member jewellers. It is a time when the designers can be brave, provocative, controversial and above all brilliantly memorable!
Entries were open to all Showcase Jewellers across Australia and New Zealand. The item of Jewellery could be valued up to $5000 RRP. Entries are ‘blind’ judged against a set criteria by a celebrity judging panel consisting of eminent jewellery industry figures alongside Shwcase Jewellers General Manager Carson Webb.
The theme of this year’s design awards was to create real-world pieces for the general Australian public. After much fanfare, the 2015 Showcase Jewellers Design Award winner was proudly announced as Leah Abercrombie of Matthews Jewellers (Charlestown).
The inspiration for the stunning earrings Leah designed comes from the beauty of autumn leaves. The remarkable earrings made in 18ct white gold and rose gold, feature 13.5mm South Sea Pearls and 34, 5mm diamonds in total.
Congratulations Leah on your wonderful design achievement! This is Leah’s second year of winning the Showcase Design Awards which highlights her natural flairfor jewellery design. Visit Leah (pictured above) at Matthews Jewellers to create your own stunning customer jewellery piece.
