Discover a lifelong love of Sailing
The Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club is opening its doors to aspiring sailors this month for a day of sailing. The club’s experienced sailors will take people interested in the sport for a sail on the harbour as part of Discover Sailing Day on September 12.
Club Commodore Jim Holley says the Discover Sailing Day is free and is aimed at demonstrating how fun, safe and affordable it is. “If you’ve always wondered what sailing is all about then this is the perfect opportunity to come and enjoy a free sail. We provide the boats and safety equipment – all you have to do is bring a spare set of clothes, a sun hat, some sun screen and bucket loads of enthusiasm.”
“The Discover Sailing Day offers you the opportunity to go for a short sail with an experienced sailor, have a look around, enjoy the clubs facilities and find out about all the great sailing courses available in the heart of Newcastle.”
Jim Holley says last year was so popular the club was overwhelmed with people keen to 8 popular that many of the people who took part came back and booked into our learn to sail programs. We were overwhelmed with numbers so it’s important to book in early.”
“A dedicated Discover Sailing Host will welcome you to the club, answer any questions you may have and ensure you have a great day out with friends and family. We’ve designed the day so that it’s kid friendly and children as young as five can take part with their family"
The club will be offering sails of its ocean going racing yachts, F24 training keel boats and Olympic class Lasers. The day begins at 10am and finishes at 2pm. To register visit www.ncyc.net.au
