STREET STYLE: Jackets

Say hello to the leather biker, fur jacket and printed coat – three head-turning styles that will make you want to retire your everyday black coat. What’s more, they’ll give your winter wardrobe a serious shake-up, keep you toasty warm and complete your outfit… not cover it up. Here’s how I wear my three new favourite winter jackets.

THE LEATHER BIKER Think you have to ride a Harley to pull off a leather biker? Think again! This style adds instant cool factor and can be thrown over anything from skinny jeans and a band tee to a draped blouse and midi skirt. This faux leather biker from Sportsgirl is the perfect length and shape.

THE FUR JACKET Arguably the trickiest winter look to pull off, the fur jacket needs to be styled in a certain way. Because it’s so bulky, it should be worn with skinny jeans, slim midi skirts or anything else form-fitting to balance out the shape. If you consider yourself a classic dresser, go for black or navy, but if you’re more creative, try a pastel shade… And always faux fur, of course.

THE PRINTED COAT Even though we wear our winter coat every day, we tend to stick to one or two

basics that we can throw over any outfit – black, camel and grey, we’re looking at you! If you’re ready to branch out, try a printed coat; it will lift the simplest of outfits (for those jeans and tee kinda days), and if you choose one in a monochrome print, it will still go with most of your wardrobe (see Peacoat from Country Road opposite).
