More than 250 new jobs will be created, and millions will be injected into Lake Macquarie City annually, as the Hunter Regional Planning Panel gives the go-ahead for construction of Costco Lake Macquarie – a landmark 14,000 sqm warehouse and fuel station in the City’s North West Catalyst Area.
Lake Macquarie Mayor Cr Kay Fraser said Council is thrilled to see the development application approved and is looking forward to the new warehouse and fuel station opening in mid-2021.
“It’s a wonderful investment in our community, particularly as the first regional store in NSW outside of greater Sydney. The potential of this area is incredible and it’s the next significant step in realising the countless benefits for jobs, our local economy, lifestyle and businesses”, Cr Fraser said.
“The $49 million Costco development will continue to spur significant growth in Lake Macquarie City. We look forward to working with other businesses that want to take advantage of the North West Lake Macquarie catalyst area’s potential as the transformation of Glendale, Cardiff, Boolaroo and surrounds into a thriving economic and employment hub continues,” said Cr Fraser.
Council staff are also assessing housing development applications for 330 lots for the nearby Weemala at the lake subdivision. These dwellings will be home to about 2000 new Lake Macquarie residents and working families, who are taking advantage of the site’s close proximity to our wonderful natural environment, community facilities and employment opportunities.
Council, Dantia, our local MPs, Hunter and Central Coast Development Corporation and the NSW Government continue to work together to deliver the opportunities offered by the North West Lake Macquarie Catalyst Area.
